Short for International Protection, these lights are grouped according to their resistance to water and dust.

Spaces like the bathtub and shower are considered zone 0, meaning there is a high exposure to water. Hence, any lighting within this zone must be rated at least IP67 and be immersion proof. The further away your lights are from direct water sources, the lower the IP rating gets. For zone 1 consider IP65, for zone 2 IP44 is required and in the outside zones without direct water impact, it’s advised to opt for bathroom lights with an IP rating of at least IP20+.
